Apollo Sports Capital has announced the majority purchase of Atletico San Luis, a Liga MX team. This means the club will be under the control of a group of US investors. The operation includes also Atletico Ottawa of Canada and Atletico Madrid of Spain. This is a continuation of the trend of foreign investment in Mexican football teams. In 2021, a group of foreign investors invested in Necaxa, and in 2024, actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac joined that group. Upon confirmation of the purchase of Atletico Madrid and Atletico San Luis, Al Tylis will be a shareholder in two Liga MX teams. The issue of multipropiedad in Mexican football continues to be a topic of debate. The Tinajero family owns at least half of Necaxa, and the purchase of Atletico San Luis by Apollo Sports Capital means that the club will be under the control of a group of US investors.
